Simulation debriefing—for wilderness medicine and rescue courses

Author: Dr. Steve Truong

Simulation training is a technique for practice and learning that is used in many different fields.[1] Wilderness first aid and wilderness medicine are no different and in my experience most wilderness first and wilderness medicine courses now include simulation-based learning. But if simulation provides the opportunity for practice, it is through discussion during debriefing phase that participants reflect and learn.[2]

There are different tools and approaches to simulation debriefing. Drawing from the healthcare simulation world, on this podcast we will go over one of these tools today: the Promoting Excellence and Reflective Learning in Simulation or PEARLS framework.[3]

Now onto the podcast!
