Women's-only course — who can join?
Those interested in a women’s only learning environment. Cis-women, trans-women, and non-binary folks are all welcome!
A women’s only course offers a unique learning atmosphere that many instructors, guides and paddlers have experienced, enjoyed (and asked for!) on the river. Taught by women for women, this course provides the exact same quality of instruction and practice as our other programs just with an environment some learners may prefer.
Some equipment can be rented from Boreal River Rescue. Prices are in Canadian dollars and include rental for your whole course:
- Wetsuit (full length arms & legs, fleece-lined) - $63
- Helmet - $12
- Rescue PFD (with ‘quick-release’ harness) - $40

There’s free street parking on Boulevard de Lucerne near the meeting location.
There are a number of great whitewater rescue training sites around Ottawa - Gatineau that we’ll choose from. We may train on the Ottawa River right in the city—or we may travel up to 1 hr east or west of the city to access the best sites, depending on water levels.
We’ll start at our meeting location with some on-land training. We’ll then carpool to our first river site. For the rest of the course, the instructor will let you know about meeting locations depending on water levels.
There are a variety of accommodation options for this course. There is a variety of camping options around the Ottawa, ON | Gatineau, QC area. There are also many hotels in Ottawa | Gatineau, or you can find a place to stay through Airbnb.
