Carabiner & Webbing for Your Swiftwater & Whitewater Rescue Course

For any Swiftwater or whitewater rescue course with Boreal River, you’ll need a locking carabiner and a 4 to 5-metre strand of tubular webbing for the first day of your course.

These two pieces of gear, together known as a ‘flip line’, are a versatile necessity for any rescuer’s toolkit. For example, besides anchoring, it can be used as a harness, reaching aid, or to tie a boat to shore quickly.

Please watch the video to learn more about how to carry a flip line.

Where to purchase?

You can purchase both items from any outdoor retailer. Here are some of our favourites.

Tubular webbing (1”)

The webbing must be climbing-grade tubular webbing, rated up to 17 kN. Tubular webbing is sold by the metre. We recommend a strand 4-5 metres long.

NRS

The length of the webbing should be at least long enough to wrap around your waist ~2.5-3  times.

Locking carabiner

You need to bring a locking carabiner.

You can go with an ‘auto-locker’ like this one: NRS Nuq twist lock carabiner — or a ‘screw gate’: Petzl Attache Screw-Lock Carabiner
