Rescue Technician Swim Test (RTST-9)

RTST-9 Swim Test Requirements

All candidates for Boreal River Rescue Swiftwater Rescue Technician (SRT) or Whitewater Rescue Technician (WRT) Level III certification must complete the Boreal River Rescue Technician Swim Test (RTST-9).

Candidates may complete RTST-9 in one of the following ways:

  1. With a Proctor — A qualified evaluator administers the test and submits results. (See how to become or find a proctor below.)
  2. Video submissions — Candidates record their test and submit it to us.
  3. With a Boreal River Rescue instructor — on a private group course, with time added for testing.
  4. Alternative certification — Candidates with a current Bronze Cross or NLS certification at the time of their WRT or SRT course may submit proof instead of completing RTST-9.

Safety Notice

Boreal River Rescue is not responsible for your safety while completing or training for RTST-9. Perform the test in still water. Have supervision and backup from others with strong swimming skills and appropriate qualifications.
