Terms of Service for Boreal River Rescue

Welcome to Boreal River Rescue! By booking a course with us or using our website (rescue.borealriver.com), you’re agreeing to the following terms. We’ve kept things simple and easy to understand so you know exactly what to expect.

1. Who We Are

We’re Boreal River Rescue, and we specialize in courses like whitewater rescue, wilderness medicine, and ice safety & rescue. We also offer customized group and private courses to meet your needs. Some courses are available in French for French-speaking participants.

If you have questions, call us at 1-866-242-9383 or email us at info@borealriver.com.

2. Booking a Course

Booking your spot is easy:

  • Book online through our website.
  • Call us to reserve your place.

For most courses in North America, you’ll pay the full cost upfront. For Costa Rica courses, you can pay a 25% deposit if you’re booking more than 120 days in advance.

We accept payment by credit card, cheque, e-transfer (in Canada), or wire transfer.

3. Cancellation Policy

If you need to cancel, let us know as soon as possible by email. Here’s how it works:

  • More than 60 days before your course:

    • Full refund minus a $95 registration fee.
    • For medical courses with mailed textbooks, refund minus $145 ($95 registration + $50 textbook/shipping).
  • 60 to 14 days before your course:

    • 100% refund of any lodging or equipment rental fees.
    • 50% refund of course fees.
  • Less than 14 days before your course:

    • No refunds.
  • If we cancel a course:

    • You’ll get a full credit or a spot on another date.
    • We’re not responsible for expenses like flights or visas.

4. Pricing and Taxes

  • Canadian courses are priced in CAD and include federal (GST) and provincial taxes based on the course location.
  • Costa Rica courses are priced in USD with no additional taxes.
  • Your credit card company or bank determines the exchange rate for payments.

5. Preparing for Your Course

Once you register, we’ll email you a confirmation and an Info Pack with all the details you need: packing list, directions, meeting times, and more.

Our courses are inclusive and accessible. If you have specific needs or concerns, let us know—we’re happy to help make the course work for you.

6. Your Safety

Your safety is our priority. While our instructors do everything to create a safe environment, outdoor activities come with risks. Here’s what we ask:

  • Let us know about any injuries, illnesses, or disabilities before your course.
  • Check with your doctor if you have medical concerns.
  • Follow your instructor’s guidance during training.

All participants must complete a Liability Release and Indemnity Agreement before starting the course.

7. Flexibility and Changes

Outdoor training requires flexibility. Course sites, itineraries, and accommodations may change due to local conditions. We’ll do our best to let you know in advance. By joining, you agree to adapt as needed.

8. Privacy

We collect some personal information to manage your booking. Here’s how we handle it:

  • Medical info is deleted within two weeks of your course ending.
  • We keep your name, email, and address unless you ask us to remove it.
  • We never share your email without your permission.

For details, check our Privacy Policy or contact us.

9. Photographs and Videos

We may take photos or videos during courses for promotional purposes. If you’d prefer not to appear in them, let us know at the start of the course.

10. Disputes and Governing Law

Our terms are governed by the laws of Quebec, Canada. If you have any disputes, let’s try to resolve them together first.
