Anchors on Loads: Kayaks, Rafts, Canoes

When tying rope or webbing to a boat or any other load in the river, it is best to attach to at least 2 points if there is going to be a lot of force applied.

Anchors on loads start at 02:24 of this video:

When to use anchors on loads

These anchors can be used when:

  • unpinning or unwrapping a boat
  • using a transportation system on the water that includes ropes, such as a 2-point or 4-point raft on tether
  • lining a raft down a drop where there is any chance that it could get pinned

For bad wraps, consider anchoring around the gull of the canoe or around the whole outer raft tube.
